The Homeschool Series - Our Curriculum Choices for 2015-2016

It's time to talk about curriculum. The choices are endless. You can choose from all in one type curriculum, creating your own, piecing different curriculum together for different subjects, and on-line curriculum. It can be very overwhelming if you don't know where to start.

If you have never picked out curriculum before, my advice would be to talk to friends that you know that homeschool. Find out what works for them and what doesn't, and then do your own research. I would also suggest praying about it. What works for one family may not be the right fit for your family.

I started out using the A Beka Curriculum. I used it as a kid, several of the private schools in our area use it, and I am just familiar with it. Last year I was very close to choosing to go a different route, but after much thought, prayer, and talking to my husband, I realized that A Beka really is the best fit for us at this time. My kids both really like it. I am adding a few different things that are not from A Beka.

4th Grade - Cade

- Bible - This will be doing a combination of memory work that we come up with, the New Testament Curriculum from Easy Peasy All-In-One Homeschool, God's Creative Power Will Work for You by Charles Capps for confessions and memory work, and watching Free Downloads from Keith Moore at Moore Life Ministries, and the Believers Voice of Victory on TV or on YouTube . We are going heavy on Bible this year! It's just important.

- Spelling/Poetry - A Beka

- Writing - A Beka - Penmanship Mastery 1

- Art - I will come up with my own weekly/monthly art projects. I have a Kid Craft Board on Pinterest where I like to store links to art projects from other blogs.

- Sign Language - We are all going to start learning Sign Language together using various resources on YouTube and the Web. We will be keeping it very laid back.

K5 - Henry

- Number Skills - A Beka

- Letters & Sounds - A Beka

- Social Studies - A Beka

- Science - A Beka

- Art - I will come up with my own weekly/monthly art projects.

- Sign Language - We are all going to start learning Sign Language together using various resources on YouTube and the Web. We will be keeping it very laid back.

 How I Purchase My Curriculum

1. I do not order the A Beka kit.
2. I order the workbooks from A Beka on-line or at a Display Sale, and then purchase the Teacher's Curriculum and Keys from A Beka, eBay, or borrow from friends. It saves a ton of money by not purchasing the kit.
3. I do my own thing for Art and Bible.

Do you homeschool your children? Have you found curriculum that really works for your family?

No YouTube video this week! Our curriculum has been ordered, but isn't here just yet.
